This beautifully illustrated book tells the stories behind 60 remarkable buildings in the National Trust’s care, chosen by expert curators from the many thousands of National Trust properties across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Spanning 900 years of history, the selection ranges from a 13th-century tithe barn in Oxfordshire to a 20th-century suburban semi in Liverpool; from a medieval manor house in Herefordshire to a Victorian lighthouse in Tyne and Wear; from an Arts and Crafts village in County Antrim to an atomic research facility in Suffolk. 60 Remarkable Buildings of the National Trust has an introduction by architect and television presenter George Clarke and concludes with a useful illustrated glossary of specialist terms and architectural features.

AUTHOR INFORMATION – Dr Elizabeth Green is the National Trust’s Senior National Curator for Architectural History and for Wales and has been a curator within the National Trust, in Wales and Northern Ireland, since 2002. Previously, she spent eight years in private practice specialising in historic building analysis and adaptive reuse. Her principal interests lie in mediaeval, vernacular and Welsh architecture and temporary structures, on which subjects she has written widely.
George Clarke is an architect, television presenter, campaigner and educator. In 2020, despite the challenges presented by the first Covid-19 lockdown, he recorded the Channel 4 television series George Clarke’s National Trust Unlocked, screened later that year. His other popular television series include Restoration Man, George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces and Old House, New Home.
